Sick Waiting Campaign

Health care will be a key issue in the forthcoming General Election and politicians from all parties will be looking for your vote. The time is right for you to express your concerns about CF services to our future representatives. Politicians need to be made aware that CF is a serious issue and as a group we do carry some weight. Since the publication of the Pollock Report we have made some progress with an increase in medical staffing that is trickling into the CF centres around the country. Progress has been painfully slow and we have reached a trigger point and the time is right to voice our frustrations to the people who want our vote. We are SICK WAITING and demand the implementation the Pollock Report and the publication of the findings of the HSE CF Working Group.

Information packs are being sent to every T.D., Senator and member of the Association highlighting our issues and eight solutions that need immediate implementation and requesting their support.

This pack contains basic information on CF and the Association; real life experiences of people with CF and their families from across the country; the current state of CF care and what has taken place since 2005 when the Pollock Report was launched; and the eight actions that need immediate implementation.

In fact, this pack contains everything needed to challenge the election hopefuls on your doorstep. Let the candidates know that you will be voting for parties that protect those affected by a chronic illness such as cystic fibrosis. Inform them that Ireland has the highest incidence of cystic fibrosis in the world and as a result we should be a leader in the provision of CF care with a properly resourced service.

Enclosed in each pack are two postcards. One outlines the eight actions that we want implemented. Keep this by your door and use it as a prompt when election candidates call. A number of spare cards are enclosed for distribution to friends or to the candidates themselves. A second card addressed to the Minister of Health is also enclosed in the pack. Please distribute copies of this and sign and post to CF House. We will present these as a petition to the new Minister of Health after the election.

Copies of the campaign material will be available on the website under Publications – Member Information.

There will be a lot of issues competing for the politicians’ attention – you can make a difference. Highlight the issues described in this pack. CF care and outcomes can be improved significantly for very little money.
