Swine Flu Update: 30th October 2009
Arrangements for PWCF and the Pandemic Vaccine for people with Cystic Fibrosis whose GPs are not offering the vaccine.
Swine Flu Vaccine is now available for PWCF (as one of the groups of People) most at risk from Swine Flu. PWCF should first talk to their GP about getting the Swine Flu vaccine. If your GP is not giving out the Swine Flu vaccine, you can be vaccinated at a HSE Clinic from Monday November 2nd. You should bring your PPSN (Personal Public Service Number) with you when you visit the clinic and you will also be asked to sign a consent form indicating your condition or reason for being in the first at-risk group (suggest taking your LTI book along with you for proof of identity).

H1NI Virus (Swine Flu) Updated - 23rd Oct 09
Update on the H1N1 Virus (Swine Flu) from CFAI
23rd October 2009
The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland continues to be proactive and vigilant on the response by the HSE in relation to the threat of the H1N1 virus in Ireland for People with Cystic Fibrosis (pwcf).
Our approach has been to be neither alarmist or complacent about the challenges posed by swine flu on the one hand. In particular The CFAI is in daily contact HSE Office of Population Health.
While there has been much progress including the priority given to people with CF in the vaccination programme and the publication of the HSE/CFAI guidelines on Swine Flu, it is evident that there are and will be problems and inconsistencies in the roll out of the vaccination programme including:
* The non participation of some GPs
* The different dates of delivery/possible delays in the delivery of vaccines
The CFAI continues to highlight problems on a daily basis where they arise. Evidence from calls to the office over the last few days is that in many areas the vaccination programme appears to be progressing smoothly but in other areas there have been some problems.
Our current advice for people with CF seeking immunisation from the H1N1 virus is that they should:
(1) Contact your GP as soon as possible to seek a specific appointment for vaccination.
(2) To remember that the H1N1 Pandemic vaccine is being delivered with the routine vaccine deliveries. GPs
already have a schedule of deliveries so should know when their routine deliveries will arrive. They should therefore be in a position to make such an appointment.
(3)If your GP is not participating in the vaccination programme, HSE clinics to be set up in all Local Health Office areas from November 2nd. The HSE have assured us details will be announced shortly.
(4)We urge parents and people with CF to read/listen carefully to any advice given by their GP's in relation to the vaccination
(5) We urge parents to contact the CFAI Office if you are experiencing any significant problems in receiving an appointment for the vaccination info@cfireland.ie or phone 01 4962433.
