Travel Tips

So what do people with Cystic Fibrosis and their families need to take into consideration when planning a short or extended vacation? CF Ireland has outlined a few important things to keep in mind when planning a trip away.

From what documents you should bring, to what you need to prepare for travelling with medications and medical devices/appliances, this document should help get you on the right track for your trip.

Travel Insurance

It is vital for people with CF to get adequate travel insurance before taking a trip abroad. Failure to do so could result in high costs being incurred should medical treatment be required while away.

This information sheet outlines some of the travel insurance options available if planning a trip abroad.

CF Advocates

The CF Advocates support people with Cystic Fibrosis and their families in whatever way they can. Whether you need advice on your rights and entitlements, are looking for practical information about living with CF, or just need a chat, they are there to help.

Dr Denise Stapleton completed her PhD in nutrition education in CF in 2002 and edited the Australasian CF nutrition guidelines published in 2006. She has recently published a book in association with Gillian Griffiths on children who struggle at mealtimes, the causes and what you can do to overcome these issues.

Information for those affected by Bereavement

This booklet, produced by the Citizens Information Board, provides information on dealing with the practical and material matters that arise following a death and it is intended as a guide for people who have been recently bereaved.

It contains general information on what to do immediately after a death and the taxation, legal and financial issues that may arise, including social welfare payments. It does not provide detailed information on all these matters but does provide information about where to go for further information and support.

Catherine's Time to Shine & Matthew O'Brien: The Big Match

Ann-Marie Kavanagh has three children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF), who attend Temple Street Children's University Hospital, Dublin. When their children were younger, Ann-Marie and her husband discovered that there was little information available in a story format that explained CF treatment in an age-appropriate way.

'Catherine's Time to Shine' is an exciting and easy-to-read book that cleverly puts Catherine at the centre of the story and at the same time explains in a child-friendly manner why she needs to take her Creon and have regular physiotherapy.

'Matthew O'Brien: The Big Match' is Anne-Marie's first book. It covers the same treatment for CF but the central character is male.
