It Makes Cents

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland are calling on people to donate their unwanted 1 cent and 2 cent coins to charity.

With the planned phasing out of 1 & 2 cent coins, why not put your unwanted coins in a Cystic Fibrosis Ireland Collection Box. This way you can help us continue to support people with Cystic Fibrosis.

From October 28th 2015, a scheme aimed at reducing the number of one and two cent coins in circulation in Ireland began that will see customers have their change rounded to the nearest five cents.

Rounding will only be used in cash transactions as part of Ireland’s initiative which aims to reduce the use of 1 cent and 2 cent coins. Rounding will be conducted on a voluntary basis while 1 cent and 2 cent coins will remain legal tender. Customers will still be entitled to ask for exact change.

The official rollout follows the successful trial conducted by the National Payments Plan in Wexford in 2013 which showed 85 per cent of consumers and 100 per cent of retailers in Wexford welcomed the national rounding of cent coins in Ireland.
