The HSE are currently seeing an increase in RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), a common winter viral infection. Although common, RSV is the main cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in very young children and can be serious for children and adults with an underlying lung condition or people with a weakened immune system. Symptoms of an RSV infection start like a cold and can include:
These symptoms usually appear in stages and not all at once. While we are in the winter season, make sure you know the symptoms and have all the information to protect yourself. If you have symptoms of RSV and are in the high risk category, contact your GP or speak to your CF team if feeling unwell.
