Update on CREON (PERT) Shortage

CFI have learnt that shortages of the PERT product, CREON, is due in part to manufacturing capacity problems. This is leading to temporary, rolling supply disruption.

While both the Creon 10,000 IU and the Creon 25,000 IU were out of stock recently, Creon 25,000 has become available again, while Creon 10,000 is not due back in stock until the end of June.

However, further shortages are expected over the coming months.

Sarah Tecklenborg, Interim CEO of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland states:

“We are aware that this is an extremely distressing and worrying time for our members who rely on Creon. Unfortunately there is no easy solution to this issue, nor is there a timeline on when the manufacturers can guarantee supply so we expect there to be ongoing shortages.

"However, we want our members to know that we are working tirelessly and closely with other European patient organisations and together we are doing all we can to advocate on this issue and find solutions and alternatives.”

Anyone who is concerned about these shortages and experiencing difficulties are urged to contact to their Dietitians and clinical team for advice and updated information.
