CFI Online Safety Statement

May 2020

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (CFI) is the national patient group for CF in Ireland. We are both a recognised charity and a company limited by guarantee.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland is committed to supporting our members and recognise that during the cocooning restrictions set out by the Government (March 2020) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need for additional online resources.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland are seeking to provide a range of activities from webinars, wellness sessions, information meetings and exercise classes to support our members during this time.

As an organisation we recognise the importance of online safety and have put together this online safety statement to help protect  both our members and the organisation.

We would encourage members to review this statement before partaking in any online sessions.

This statement outlines the range of activities that CF Ireland facilitate for members and the best practices which have been implemented for each activity.

Exercise Classes:

CFI recognise how important it is for people with CF to remain active during the COVID-19 crisis. Not only is routine exercise an essential part of CF management, it is also key to maintaining your mental health. Daily exercise can bring a sense of structure to your day.

CF have engaged qualified fitness instructors to run online sessions for the CF Community. These classes may not be suitable for everyone. It is important to follow the guidelines provided to your by your CF team. If unsure of your suitability, please contact your unit in advance of participation.

Your CF physiotherapy team will be able to give you advice on the types of exercises suitable for you.

Those wishing to take part in the classes should ensure:

  • Their environment is suitable and free of clutter, obstacles and pets.
  • Have suitable attire for the session
  • Be aware of their own health limitations

As this is an ongoing schedule, if your health changes at any stage you should immediately stop partaking in the exercise and consult your CF team before taking part in future sessions.

Meetings, Workshops & Webinars

To facilitate community interaction, CF Ireland will host a range of activities, information sessions and workshops. These events will take place through webinars and online video conferencing.

Details of what is involved with each specific event will be circulated to participants in advance. There is no obligation on members to take part in any classes or tasks.

To allow these sessions to run smoothly, participants will be muted on entry to the meeting and when the speaker is leading the session.

A CFI staff member will be present at each session to help with any technical issues, details of which will be made available in the session.

The decision on whether to participate in video conferencing is up to the individual.

We would ask you to respect the other participants on the event at all times.

On occasion, events may be recorded. CFI and the event facilitator will notify participants in advance of the session if recording is taking place.

Child Safety Statement

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland are holding sessions for all demographics within our membership including children under 18 years of age. For anyone under 18 who wishes to participate in an online session, they must receive permission from a parent or guardian to take part.

For online sessions taking part over Zoom, as per the CFI Child Safety Statement a parent / guardian should be present.

Every effort will be made by Cystic Fibrosis Ireland to ensure that the online environment is safe for children. To this effect, children will not be permitted to take part in classes which are designed specifically for adults.

Staying Safe Online

The internet is an integral part of everyday life for a lot of people. However, we would like to highlight ways to stay safe online.

  • Sessions organised by CFI may include video conferencing. Participants can choose whether to turn their camera on / off. If you do choose to turn your camera on, please be aware other participants will be able to see you.

Never disclose any personal information (address, bank information etc,.) to individuals on any sessions organised by CFI. If you are asked for personal information please notify CFI immediately.
  • To protect the privacy of our members, sessions organised by CFI will take place in closed groups. We would ask that you not share the log in details or information of the session with anyone else.
  • Some sessions, in particular the wellness workshops, may involve sharing experiences. We would ask you to respect the confidentiality of the session and not divulge information outside of the session.
  • As per our child safety statement, children taking part in sessions will need to be registered by a parent / guardian. A parent / guardian should be present in the room with the child throughout the session.
