CFI appeals to the public for continued support of Covid-19 measures

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (CFI) urges continued public/wider community support for COVID 19 public health measures for the sake of people with CF and for others who are at high or very high risk, including all those with lung diseases in Ireland. We support the recently announced updated public health advice announced by Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly TD on revised public health measures.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland take this opportunity a huge thank you to all our members, supporters and the general public for their continued support and patience around public health measures to tackle Covid-19. People with CF are either at high risk or very high risk from Covid-19. We know that the public health guidance can be challenging, including for small and medium businesses, but we would hope that in making sacrifices now that the most vulnerable in our community will remain protected.

CFI urges continued rejection of the discredited concept of ‘herd immunity’ because of the potential impact on those with chronic diseases, including those with cystic fibrosis. We know that not everyone will agree with all aspects of public health policy on COVID-19, but we would ask the general public to continue to show the great community response that they have shown to date.

CFI further takes this opportunity to thank all who have been involved in fighting COVID-19 including our very committed CF Clinicians and their teams, the Department of Health the HSE including the NCP for CF and all front-line workers.

Cystic Fibrosis Ireland continues to provide advice and practical supports for our community and to advocate for full return of CF hospital services, and we welcome recent progress on this in recent weeks.
