Education

Education is key to Independent Living and everybody getting an equal opportunity in life.  Whilst the participation of people with cystic fibrosis (PWCF) in third level education is improving, PWCF continue to face enormous challenges due to their chronic illness.

For many people with CF, it will be necessary to integrate essential treatment regimens into their daily school/college lives. This can involve upwards of two hours of treatment per day. Treatment will generally involve a daily routine of physiotherapy, exercise, the taking of tablets to aid digestion of food and regular antibiotics to combat frequent chest infections.

Going to school is a very exciting time for any child, and CF shouldn’t keep any child from benefitting fully from the experience.  Communication with school staff is key; let them know when your child may be absent and ask them about any concerns they may have.
