We are pleased to let our members know that plans have continued to progress for the 20 room CF in-patient facility in Beaumont, despite all the challenges around COVID-19 (Beaumont is the busiest hospital in Ireland in relation to the pandemic in terms of patient numbers). All preparations are now complete and we just await the final decision at political/HSE level for the building to proceed.
CFI and CF Hopesource have promised together to fundraise €1m for this project, which is about one twelfth of its total cost.
A Capital (building) Steering Group has been established by the hospital to oversee the CF building project that includes Cytsic Fibrosis Ireland, our friends and colleagues in local charity CF Hopesource; CF clinicians and key management and building personnel within Beaumont Hospital, including its CEO Ian Carter.
CFI wishes to thank all on the Steering Group, Beaumont Hospital, the HSE and Minister Simon Harris, Minister Finian McGrath and An Taoiseach and members from all political parties for their support for this project over many years. The support of the Eastern Branch of CFI and the 'Head to Head' walks has played a key role in fundraising and raising awareness for this project and we thank all who have supported the fundraising.
CFI is still awaiting confirmation when building will commence. There is no doubt COVID-19 is impacting on many build projects. CFI remains hopeful a positive decision to commence building will be given once the emergency is over. We will certainly be keeping up the pressure!
