Cystic Fibrosis Ireland continues to make representations to the HSE and the Minister's Office on the need to extend the COVID-19 vaccination programme to 12-15 year olds, in line with the guidance provided by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) on 28 May, 2021.
The vaccine approved for young people in the 12-15 age group is Pfizer’s Comirnaty vaccine.
The EMA has not yet approved COVID-19 vaccination for younger age groups.
As reported in the Sunday Independent (04/07/21), it's likely that an announcement will be made soon that a Schools Immunisation Programme will roll out in August.
CFI urges that this announcement is made as soon as possible to give reassurance to students returning to school in September.
CFI will of course keep members updated on further developments.
