People with CF Should Remain Cocooning

Please note that despite some relaxation in COVID-19 restrictions, people with CF should still follow the cocooning regulations:

  • Strictly avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of COVID-19. These symptoms include high temperature and/or new and continuous cough
  • Stay home as much as possible except to leave home for exercise or a drive up to 5km. If you do decide to exercise outside of your house / garden you should:
    • Continue to avoid all contact with people
    • At minimum adhere strictly to the 2 metres physical (social) distancing measures
    • Choose a time when you are much less likely to meet other people
    • Avoid areas you know will likely have other people
    • Avoidance of all shops is still recommended
    • Avoid touching people or surfaces (gates, benches, outdoor exercise equipment etc.)
    • Remove shoes at front door upon returning home
    • Wash your hands on returning home
  • Do not attend any gatherings. This includes gatherings of friends and families in private spaces for example family homes, weddings and religious services
  • Do not go out for shopping and, when arranging food or medication deliveries, these should be left at the door to minimise contact
  • Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media
  • Use telephone or online services to contact your GP or other essential services
  • Ensure you keep phones/devices charged, and have credit on your phone so that you can stay connected

For members of the public supporting those who are cocooning when they are outside their home, it is important to do the following:

  • Keep at a distance - a minimum of 2 metres is recommended
  • Allow them space for walking
  • Avoid physical contact such as shaking hands
