Exercise and Physical Activity

where is this

Exercise and staying active are very important for people with CF. Exercise helps improve lung function and acts as a natural form of chest physiotherapy, helping to clear the airways. It also supports mental wellbeing and overall quality of life.

The good news is that many types of exercise are free and easy to access. Even small changes to your daily routine can help improve your fitness.

We understand that living with CF can bring financial challenges. To help with this, we offer a range of financial supports for our members to help cover the cost of exercise.

Maintaining positive Mental Health and wellbeing is vital to navigating the challenges that arise in our day to day lives. Our mental health affects how we think, feel and also how we act, impacting upon our coping mechanisms, relationships and decision-making abilities.  Mental health is vital through all the stages of our lives from early childhood through to adulthood.

CFI offer financial support for those wishing to avail of counselling services.  These services may be a local provider that you have identified or alternatively we can help source an appropriate counsellor.

Whether it is individual support or family support we are happy to speak with you to understand and support your needs. This service extends to play and art therapy for the younger child as well as supporting siblings who may not have CF themselves but may benefit from engaging with a professional.

Financial Assistance

CFI has limited funds available under the Social and Distress scheme to lend assistance to families of children with CF and adults with CF experiencing certain difficulties or financial hardship.

Requests for support through this scheme must be accompanied by a letter from the Social Worker or other health professional who has been involved in supporting the PWCF.
